WELCOME to the Comment Zone - what are your views on Horsham FC's new ground?

Each week we will invite you to comment on topical local issues.

This week Horsham Football Club's new ground is the subject.

Is it a good idea to site the ground at Holbrook?

Should it be at Hop Oast?

Will you be going to Worthing to watch the side next season?

Should the club have sorted out a new site before selling Queen Street?

Please keep any comments to the topic. This is not a forum to criticise individuals.

Holbrook Club is not the place for Horsham Football Club's new ground, it should be positioned away from a residential area with easy access from main roads and adequate parking.

Hop Oast would seem an ideal place,as it meets all the above and could make use of the park and ride parking.

Although the idea of it being just round the corner, still close to town would be good for most to walk too at Holbrook, I don’t think I would always enjoy living next to the grounds myself - not when we get as far as we did in the last FA rounds, with the amount of chaos on the roads, etc... Hop Oast therefore gets my vote, just means I'll be driving instead from north Horsham instead of walking...

As an ex HFC player and also an ex-resident of the Holbrook area I have been watching this saga unfold. HFC needs a new ground quickly and the Holbrook club is as good as any site and it can be quickly adapted. So I say good luck to them both and let it happen quickly.
Those in the Holbrook area who constantly go on about increased, traffic and noise etc, are just NIMBYs hiding behind petty arguments: they should be honest and admit being a NIMBY; there's no shame in it. I used to live within a few hundred yards of the club and most of the NIMBYs are those living in houses which are the reason I moved away when the countryside, which started immediately north of the Holbrook club, disappeared. I could no longer be in the open countryside within 5 minutes of leaving my house. Instead I had to walk through a large, ever expandinh housing development and then cross the dual carriaeway to the north. Those in Drake Close for instance are living in houses that drove me to move yet they seem to think they have always been there and have a god-given right not to have developments they don't like around them. Tough, the world moves on, developments are developed around and those in turn developed around: it's a fact of life in the South East. If I was still living there I know what I'd rather have: a nice green area with the odd hour or two of noisy football and congested parking perhaps a couple of times a week is far better than several hundred new houses with the additional constant cars, noisy brats, fireworks, hooliganism etc.

I feel that hop oast would be a far more suitable site as opposed to the holbrook club as there is a massive overflow carpark that could be used at the hop oast park and ride. As hop oast is not in the middle of a highly populated residential area it would be less invasive for the general public.

The arguments for and against HFC at the Holbrook are going round and round and I'm not going to repeat them, except to say that I think that HFC's proposals are the best option for all concerned; everyone will end up suffering in the long run if they are turned down. As for Hop Oast, isn't cost a massive factor? There must be a huge difference between developing a site pretty much from scratch and upgrading an existing facility.
