50th anniversay edition GT C among new models to debut at show

The Geneva motor show will see the first reveal of the Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster Edition 50, so named to celebrate AMG’s 50th anniversary. Naturally, production will be limited to 500 cars. At least it’s not just 50.

Based on the standard rear-wheel drive GT C Roadster, the special edition model has the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, with 549bhp. The exterior colour finish though is unique, either grey magno or design cashmere white, offset with darkened chrome and darkened forged wheels.

The cabin offsets these colours with black and silver leather, along with bits of the Night Package, which makes items like the shift paddles all black. The headrests get the full name across them in case it’s too dark for you to see what interior you’re in.

This Edition 50 is one of three new Mercedes-AMG limited-edition cars to be shown at Geneva. The second is the C43 4Matic Coupe or C43 4Matic Cabriolet Night Edition. This four-wheel drive special is kind of black, as you may have guessed. There’s a black diamond grille, black trim strips on the front splitter, black side sills and black rear valence. The 19in alloys? They’re black.

Power is provided by AMG’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, giving 362bhp, the same as in the standard version.

The third car is the C63 Cabriolet or C63 S Cabriolet Ocean Blue Edition. This rear-wheel drive model, of which only 150 will be produced, is not black. In fact it’s almost cheery, to celebrate the 50th anniversary, in either design cashmere white magno or design selenite grey magno. The fabric top for the open-top car is in blue.

And blue is what you’ll find around the front bumper, wheels and rear diffuser. It’s all quite upbeat, helped by being powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 slamming out 460bhp or 503bhp.

Delivery of these special editions will be in June, but you can order them from 6 March. Prices? Do you really want to know? So do we, but they haven’t told anyone what they’ll be yet. Let’s just say you’d better be in the black before you start the buying process.
