YOUNG budding artists from Cranleigh visited a newly-owned ceramic, fabric and silk painting studio, recently.
Pupils from Acorn Nursery School, based at Cranleigh Infants School, were invited to Firing Earth at Smithbrook Kilns by new owner Mandy McKenna, to paint t-shirts and baseball hats.
Mrs McKenna is now introducing different crafts to Firing Ea
rth which was originally a successful paint your own ceramic studio and she is hoping to attract both young and old and with a range of ages and abilities to an art studio with a difference.
Mrs McKenna said: "My main reason for changing Firing Earth from just ceramics to an art studio is due to some inspiration I received quite a few years back after hiring an art studio in Bramley, Surrey.
"As a young artist being able to show my work and paint in an art studio was fantastic and great fun. Sadly, the lovely and very talented artist Sue Wingate, passed away and the studio closed and was sold.
"I always hoped that if I ever had the chance to recreate a local art studio for any artist of any age to exhibit there work, hire my studio for exhibitions or run their own classes I would try to start where Sue Wingate left off.
"I hope also that anyone with any disababilty or special needs would love to come and paint as well. They are very welcome. The studio is in such a fantastic location with on site disabled facilities."
The grand opening of Firing Earth and Wedding Frox (another newly-owned business) at Smithbrook Kilns is tomorrow (Saturday June 7) 10am – 4pm.
