Get shorty this summer
YOU DON'T need legs like a supermodel to get shorty this summer.
Those with a penchant for parading their pins can be as daring as they like with the vast array of shorts on the high street.
"Shorts are incredibly practical and comfortable," says Danielle Radojcin, fashion editor of Handbag.com.

"They come in a number of styles, from chic city shorts to hotpants, to casual cut-off denims. The great things about shorts is that anyone can wear them - you just need to find the right style to flatter your figure."
Get short searching, and pick up your perfect pair to see you through the summer.
GET SHORTY
If you're feeling deluged by dresses and all things floaty and floral this season, step aboard for the sassy tomboy shorts alternative. There's a shape and length to make everyone smile.
• Hotpant Heaven
"If you have amazing legs and bum, then hotpants are clearly the way to go," Danielle says.
Make the most of your assets in Peacock's high-waisted hotpants, £10, or Primark's patch pocket hotpants, £8. If you can find a leftover pair, snap up Kate Moss Topshop's red Petra hotpants, £30, or try Topshop's equally daring red high-waist hotpants, £28.
• City Slicker
City shorts are the perfect option for career girls who like to work and play.
Danielle has this advice: "Above the knee, high-waisted, tailored city shorts are perfect for workwear in grey or navy blue. Team with a crisp shirt and slouchy jacket."
Look to F&F Florence black belted shorts, £15, Wallis' tailored cream city shorts, £35, or Tu's belted beige city shorts, £18.
• Denim Diva
"Cut-off knee-length denims are great for casual weekends," Danielle recommends.
Go for Next's dark denim utility pocket shorts, £17, or Marks & Spencer's knee-length denim shorts, £19.50. For dare-to-bare fashion-forward denims try Dorothy Perkins' denim high-waisted shorts, £20, or Pilot's denim high-waisted shorts, £24.
• Play Time
Love them or hate them, playsuits are a quirky way to pick up on this season's shorts story. All-in-one short jumpsuits in retro styles are a fun and flirty option for younger fashionistas.
"For the beach parties, an American Apparel-style towelling playsuit is super sexy," Danielle says.
Make a sporty statement in Cherokee's yellow velour playsuit, £10, Topshop's orange strappy tie-waist playsuit, £25, or ASOS' fun One Teaspoon spot short jumpsuit, £65.
For something a tad more wearable for those who don't want to go overboard on trends or bright colours, seek out versatile options like Miss Selfridge's denim shorts playsuit, £40, River Island's cute button-through white cotton playsuit, £24.99, or Warehouse's black linen halter mini playsuit, £45.
WEAR WITH FLARE
Don't shun shorts this summer! Make them a staple you can pull out from your wardrobe again and again with Danielle's sure-fire tips on how to wear them.
• Think about your shape before you hit the shops. Which is the most flattering cut-off point for your shape - mid-thigh? Below the knee? Don't rely on shop mirrors, which often take inches off your reflection!
• Choose a fairly thick cotton. VPL and cellulite showing through at the rear is not a good look.
• Dark colours are more flattering and go with everything.
• Snip off your old boot-cut jeans just below the knee, and roll them up twice, for a great pair of weekend shorts. Team with wedges for a sexy look.
• Consider having your shorts tailored to your shape: a tailor doesn't cost much, and makes all the difference. |
