A PROUD mum has described how her brave son helped rescue a suicidal woman who was threatening to jump off a bridge in Broadfield.
Sandie Rowe, from Broadfield, explained how heroic Craig was walking home on the evening of Monday August 11 when he spotted a woman hanging off the side of a bridge.

He sprinted to her aid and with the help of a friend managed to cling on to the
woman and stop her from falling until police arrived.

And to top it off a driver who was passing at the time jumped out of his car and rushed to help the boys hold on to her.

Mum Sandie said: "I have just read your article in this week's Crawley Observer about Crawley people and how they will stop to help.

"I just wanted to say that it's not just with shopping. On Monday night my son was walking home and happened to see a lady trying to jump off a bridge he then saw someone he knew and they both went to help.

"As they were holding on to her another young man who was driving past also came to help until the police arrived. This all happened in Broadfield and just goes to show that with all the bad press Broadfield gets with all the fights etc they are some very decent people that live here.

"I'm very proud of him and the other people that stopped to help."

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "We are not investigating anything but we detained her for an assessment for her own welfare.

"Sergeant Doherty has noted that the members of the public who intervened deserved praise for their efforts and in holding on to this lady until Police arrived."
