FIRE fighters were called to Tilgate Park as nearly 20,000 square meters of bracken went up in flames.
The fire was reported to emergency services at 17.40 on Sunday (June 21).

Crews reported two hectares of pristine parkland ablaze.

Four engines attended Tilgate Park and crews used three hose reels and beaters to put out the fire.

The fire is being treated as accidental.

A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called to Tilgate Park, to a fire of tow hectares of bracken well alight. The area was dampened down and turned over."
