Sandy talked exclusively to the Observer about her shocking ordeal at the hands of armed robbers trying to evade police.
She said: "The car came from nowhere, it was going so fast I didn't even see it coming.
"It smashed straight through the barrier which flipped into the air. The train came past with in a second - it's a miracle people weren't killed.
"I had just left a mums and toddlers' group and was going for some lunch. It all happened so fast, I can't believe it.
"Lewis was strapped in to the pushchair and was holding on to the gate when the car smashed in to it. I really thought I'd lost him. I was screaming and crying. All I could think to do was to drag the pushchair away and hope he was ok.
"I just have to thank my lucky stars that Lewis wasn't killed. It really puts things in perspective, you can be standing there one minute and the next, well, anything could have happened.
The car, a black Mercedes, was trying to evade cops after an armed robbery at the BP garage in Gossops Green.
Relieved Sandy explained: "The driver of the car must have seen us waiting at the crossing, what were they thinking. They could have hit the train, or us, it really was a miracle that lots of people weren't hurt or killed.
"I saw the barrier fly up and I really thought that I'd lost him."
