AN idea sparked off by a TV programme featuring blokes and their bikes led to a group of Steyning men raising around £15,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Mark Taylor (37), of Coombe Drove, Steyning, said: "It was my stupid idea. It led to eight of us, plus two friends as back-up drivers, cycling from Brighton to Berlin, covering 700 miles in ten days.

"When I thought of it, only one of us had a bike and none of us cycled. We are all ex-Steyning Grammar School pupils and all of us have been touched by cancer in way or another – my brother died from cancer – so Marie Curie Cancer Care was a natural charity choice.

"Then we had to buy bikes, kit ourselves out, train and start planning the event."
